Debate is an adversarial communication. It requires participants to address a specific problem or issue and to engage in in-depth argumentation, refutation, defence and rebuttal through arguments and evidence. Debate not only emphasises logical thinking, but also focuses on communication, and is an effective way to develop critical thinking and language expression skills.

辩论是一种充满对立性的论证和交流方式。它要求参与者针对特定问题或议题，通过论据和证据进行深入的辩驳、驳斥、辩解和反驳。辩论不仅强调逻辑思辨，也注重沟通交流，是培养批判性思维和语言表达能力的有效途径。

In April this year, after a rigorous selection process, eight students from the Junior Secondary of ASJ (Dongguan) formed the first debate team to participate in the 2024 China Debate World Cup in the Junior High School and Primary School categories. This event is not only a high-quality platform for young people to exchange ideas, but also a large-scale youth debate event that has attracted widespread attention from the community and is highly influential globally.

今年4月，经过严格的选拔，东莞ASJ初中部的8位同学组成了首届辩论队，参加了2024年华语辩论世界杯初中小学组比赛。这一赛事不仅是当代青年思想交流的高端平台，也是受到社会广泛关注并在全球范围内极具影响力的大型青年辩论活动。

In preparation for the competition, the debate team went through the transformation from zero foundation to proficiency in debating skills. They trained hard, from understanding the rules of debate to writing speeches for each position, and gradually grew into well-trained and confident debaters.

在赛前的准备中，辩论队的成员们经历了从零基础到熟练掌握辩论技巧的转变。他们夜以继日地训练，从了解辩论规则到撰写各个辩位的发言稿，逐渐成长为训练有素、自信满满的辩手。

Under the careful guidance of the instructor, the ASJ Debate Team successfully completed the competition after more than a month of intense training and won the Bronze Medal in the debate on the topic of whether the strength of a team depends mainly on the individuality or the commonality of its members. We would also like to celebrate the outstanding performance of Grade 9E student Jessie ZHANG, who was awarded the title of 'Best Debater' in a single match.

在指导老师的悉心指导下，ASJ辩论队在一个多月的紧张训练后，成功完成了比赛，并在辩题“团队的优势主要取决于成员的个性还是共性”的辩论赛中荣获铜奖。特别值得一提的是，9年级E班的张嘉琪同学在比赛中表现出色，荣获单场比赛的“最佳辩手”称号。

To encourage more students to experience the power of debate, the Secondary Section invited the Debate Team to conduct a debate on the topic "Is inner beauty more important than outer beauty for a person's success?". 

Both sides of the debate engaged in a war of words, the debate was exciting, and won warm applause and intense discussion of the students. Through this activity, more students have a deeper understanding of the rules of debate and recognise the importance of cultivating critical thinking.

为了让更多的同学感受辩论的魅力，中学部特别邀请辩论队在集会上进行了一场辩论表演赛，辩题为“一个人的成功，内在美是否比外在美更为重要？”正反双方选手激烈交锋，引经据典，辩论环节紧张而刺激，赢得了现场同学们的阵阵掌声和热烈讨论。通过这次活动，更多的同学不仅对辩论规则有了更深入的了解，也认识到了培养批判性思维的重要性。

"I was very nervous and overwhelmed in my first debate, but then under Ms. Claire's careful guidance, our team made full preparations for the competition, and my attitude changed from being afraid of going on stage to enjoying the debate now. Our classmates may see us confident on stage, but behind the competition, we also have anxiety and other emotions, because we want to do our best in every debate, present all our efforts perfectly to the audience and make our teachers proud of us."

“第一次打辩论赛很紧张，很不知所措，后来在曾老师的不断指导下，我与队友们进行了充分的备赛，有了底气我的心情也从第一次上场的害怕转变成现在的乐在其中。同学们今天看到我们在舞台上游刃有余地进行辩论，但在比赛的背后，我们也有过焦虑、紧张以及不安等情绪，因为我们希望打好每一场比赛，也希望把我们背后付出的成果完美地展现在大家眼前，不辜负老师们对我们的期望。”

"My learning journey has been closely linked to debating, from debater to instructor to judge, debating has brought me many benefits, and now as a teacher, I hope to pass on its power. I believe that debating is meaningful, its importance lies not only in the victory that brings satisfaction to people, but also in encouraging us to think from different perspectives, from which we can be brave to speak out, understand differences and respect existence. The process of preparing for a debate is also a process of continuous learning and growth. The students' experience in this competition is a testament to this, and I hope they can continue to work hard and be fearless to face the challenges of the future!”

“我的学习生涯是一直在打辩论的，从辩手到教练到评委，辩论带给我很多收获，现在为人师表，我希望把这份力量传递下去。我认为辩论是有意义的，它的意义不仅在于结果胜负带给人的满足感，更在于通过辩论，让我们多角度思考问题，看世界不再是非黑即白，而是绚丽多彩的，我们从中能够勇敢发声，能够理解差异，尊重存在本身。在准备辩题的过程，也是自己不断学习成长的过程。同学们这次比赛经历，很好印证了这个观点，希望他们能够继续努力，无惧风浪，迎接未来的挑战！”
