Primary Years: Being A Balanced Individual

Grade 1


This week, Grade 1 students enthusiastically participated in the Spelling Bee contest, demonstrating their spelling skills with excitement and confidence. They also engaged in assessments, which helped measure their academic progress while fostering a balanced approach to learning.

本周,一年级的学生们热情地参与了拼写比赛,他们兴奋且自信地展现了其拼写能力。此外,学生们还参加了剑桥测评,这些评估不仅帮助他们衡量学业进步,更促进了全面均衡的学习发展。

Grade 2

This week, our Grade 2 students showed balance in their learning and creativity. They participated in the Spelling Bee, working hard in preparation. In the new Unit of Inquiry – Sharing the Planet, they designed posters on their iPads to promote animal and environmental conservation. A great week of effort and creativity!

本周,我们Grade 2的学生在学习和创造力方面展现了均衡发展。他们参加了拼写大赛和 INCAS 测试,并努力为之做准备。在我们新的探究单元“共享地球”中,他们用 iPad 设计了海报来宣传动物和环境保护。这是充满努力和创造力的一周!

Grade 3


This week in Grade 3, the children have been skillfully balancing a variety of lively school events, including the much-anticipated Spelling Bee, all while diving into an exciting new Unit of Inquiry. In Science, they've embarked on an enthralling exploration of living organisms, categorising them by their similarities and differences. The students have been using tables and Venn diagrams to illustrate their findings, sparking their curiosity about the natural world around them.

本周,在三年级,孩子们熟练地参加学校各项生动的活动,包括备受期待的单词拼写比赛和InCAS考试。同时,他们进入了一个令人兴奋的新探究单元。在科学课上,他们开始对生物体进行引人入胜的探索,根据它们的相似性和差异性对它们进行分类。学生们一直在使用表格和维恩图来展示他们的发现,这激发了他们对周围自然世界的好奇心。

Grade 4

Grade 4 students have been reflecting on their knowledge of using resources and their potential negative environmental impacts. Students understand the need for a balanced approach to using the world’s resources and are ready to engage the unit further with their balanced perspective in mind.

四年级的学生们一直在反思他们的资源利用知识及其对环境的潜在负面影响。学生们理解了平衡地利用世界资源的必要性,并准备以平衡的视角进一步参与本单元。

Grade 5

Grade 5 students demonstrated a well-rounded approach to their education by actively engaging in a variety of learning activities. They participated in collaborative group discussions, and creative writing exercises, which not only enhanced their critical thinking skills but also fostered teamwork and communication. This balanced method allowed them to explore different subjects, from math and literature to arts and social studies, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of the material while sparking their curiosity and enthusiasm for learning.

Grade 6A

The Grade 6A students have effectively balanced their preparations for assessments with participation in school activities. They have prioritised their tasks and developed a clear list of requirements while also breaking down larger projects into manageable steps to avoid feeling overwhelmed.

6A 班的学生在备考与参与学校活动之间取得了有效的平衡。他们合理安排任务优先级,并制定了明确的需求清单,同时将较大的项目拆解为可管理的步骤,以避免感到压力过大。

Grade 6B

The Grade 6A students have effectively balanced their preparations for assessments with participation in school activities. They have prioritised their tasks and developed a clear list of requirements while also breaking down larger projects into manageable steps to avoid feeling overwhelmed.

Music


This unit helped students explore balance through music, blending new rhythms, melodies, and collaborative skills. They learned how musical elements mirror life balance—soft/loud, fast/slow, solo/ensemble. By creating and performing, they practiced focus, adaptability, and teamwork. Connecting music to "Sharing the Planet," students discovered how harmony in art reflects harmony in community and nature.

本单元通过新节奏、旋律和合作技巧,引导学生探索音乐与生活的平衡。他们体会强弱、快慢、独奏与合奏的协调,在创作中培养专注力与团队精神。结合"共享地球"主题,学生领悟到艺术中的和谐正映射了社区与自然的共生关系。

ICT

This week in ICT, students from Grades 1-6 demonstrated what it means to be balanced individuals as they embarked on their touch typing journey. While building their typing skills, they showed focus and determination, balancing accuracy and speed with patience and perseverance. It was inspiring to see them embrace the challenge, celebrating their progress while maintaining a positive and growth-oriented mindset.

本周在ICT课上,1-6年级的学生们开始了他们的触控打字之旅,展示了成为一个平衡的人意味着什么。在提高打字技能的过程中,他们表现出了专注和决心,在准确性和速度与耐心和毅力之间取得了平衡。看到他们接受挑战,庆祝他们的进步,同时保持积极和成长导向的心态,这很鼓舞人心。

Mandarin FL

Grade 1 students learned the text ‘The Dragon Boat Festival Zongzi’.  The students gained an understanding of the customs of the Dragon Boat Festival. The text mentions, “On the Dragon Boat Festival, Grandma always cooks a pot of Zongzi, waiting for us to come back”, reflecting the warmth and affection of family. From the family, children felt the warmth of kinship, learnt to care for others and cultivate good character. Children learned the importance of stepping out of the family to integrate into society, where they were expected to get along with others, follow social rules, and contribute. By learning about ‘The Dragon Boat Festival Zongzi,’ children understood the balance between family and society, becoming both family-oriented and socially responsible individuals.

The Grade 4 students explored a unit on animals, focusing on how writers expressed their feelings towards them. Through reading and discussion, they analysed how authors conveyed affection and respect for animals. Inspired by these insights, the students wrote about their favourite animals, detailing their characteristics and sharing personal connections. This process balanced creativity with observational skills, enhancing both their writing and empathy.

一年级的学生学习了课文《端午粽》。通过学习这篇课文,学生们了解了端午节的习俗。《端午粽》中提到“端午节,奶奶总会煮好一锅粽子,等我们回去”。这体现了家庭的温暖和亲情。在家庭中,孩子们可以感受到亲情的温暖,学会关爱他人,培养良好的品德。同时,孩子们也要学会走出家庭,融入社会。在社会中,他们要与他人友好相处,遵守社会规则,为社会做出贡献。通过学习《端午粽》,孩子们可以理解家庭与社会之间的关系,学会在家庭和社会之间找到平衡,成为一个既有家庭责任感又有社会责任感的人。

四年级的学生学习了以动物为主题的单元,重点体会作家如何表达对动物的感情。通过阅读和讨论,学生们分析了作者传达情感的方式。在此启发下,他们尝试描写自己喜爱的动物,写出其特点并分享与之的情感联系。这一过程既锻炼了学生的写作能力,又培养了他们的观察力和同理心,实现了学习的平衡发展。

This week, Grades 5 and Grade 6 learned about "healthy fun”. Healthy activities like sports, hobbies, and time with friends help us feel good, grow stronger, stay creative, and balance school, play, and life!

Grade 3 and Grade 4 continued learning about "staying safe.” By avoiding dangers, exercising to stay strong, and protecting themselves if they get hurt, they can play safely and become stronger!

本周五六年级学生学习“健康的娱乐生活”并了解到健康的娱乐活动能够通过滋养身心、联结社交与激发创造力,帮助个体在生活各维度间建立动态平衡。三四年级继续学习“意外事故”并了解到我们可以通过小心避免受伤、好好锻炼身体,并在受伤后学会保护自己,能保持身体和心情的平衡,这样既能玩得安全,又能变得更强壮!

Chinese Maths


This week, Grades 5 and Grade 6 learned about "healthy fun”. Healthy activities like sports, hobbies, and time with friends help us feel good, grow stronger, stay creative, and balance school, play, and life!

P.E.


This week, Lower Primary students had an exciting time learning pickleball! They practised hitting the ball with paddles and moved around the court enthusiastically. Through discussions, the children discovered that success in pickleball requires a combination of various physical skills.

In Upper Primary, students have begun their basketball unit. They started by developing their dribbling skills through various dribbling games. During these games, students needed to be physical, use their intellect, and also balance their emotions.

本周,小学部的孩子们玩起了匹克球!他们练习用球拍击球,并在球场上热情地走来走去。通过讨论,孩子们发现,成功的匹克球需要多种身体技能的结合。

在小学高年级,学生们已经开始了他们的篮球单元。他们开始通过各种运球游戏来发展他们的运球技巧。在这些游戏中,学生们需要锻炼身体,运用他们的智力,也要平衡他们的情绪。

PY boarding this week showcased balance as students, despite being busy with spelling bee competitions and assessments, managed to put forth effort academically while also engaging in sports activities. Their commitment to both their studies and extracurricular pursuits highlights their dedication and ability to prioritise effectively. This environment nurtures well-rounded individuals who thrive in various aspects of their learning.

本周的小学部寄宿生们展示了平衡,尽管学生忙于拼写比赛和评估,但他们在学术上努力的同时也参与了体育活动。他们对学习和课外活动的承诺突显了他们有效优先处理事务的奉献精神和能力。这种环境培养了全面发展的人,他们在学习的各个方面都表现出色。
