Open-Mindedness 思想开明







Grade 1

Students have demonstrated open-mindedness by exploring the structural elements of stories in Literacy and adopting diverse strategies to solve two- and three-digit addition problems in Maths. Furthermore, in the Unit of Inquiry, children investigated how music influences emotional expression, utilising body movements and facial expressions to communicate their feelings in unique ways.

学生们以开放的心态,在读写课中探索了故事的结构要素,并在数学课中采用多种策略来解决两位数和三位数的加法问题。此外,在探究单元(UoI)中,孩子们探究了音乐如何影响情感表达,并利用肢体动作和面部表情作为独特的方式来传达感受。

The students explored shapes, patterns, and colors by creating their own Rangoli designs. They used different materials and bright colors to express their creativity. The students also learned about symmetry and how patterns can be the same on both sides.

学生们通过创造自己的Rangoli设计来探索形状、图案和颜色。他们用不同的材料和鲜艳的颜色来表达他们的创造力。学生们也学习了对称的概念,并了解了图案如何在两侧保持一致。

This week’s learning journey led the students to explore poetry in different forms. By reading examples of free verse, shape, and acrostic poetry, they developed an appreciation for each type and saw how the examples presented the same theme in different ways.

本周的三年级学生开启了不同形式的诗歌探索之旅。通过阅读自由诗、形状诗和藏头诗的例子,他们欣赏每一种类型的诗歌,并了解了这些例子是如何以不同的方式呈现同一主题的。

Students showed their open-mindedness as they analysed adverts for a range of products and services. Students needed to put aside their own biases and preferences to try to assess the quality of the advert and understand better the decisions underpinning its composition.

学生们在分析各类产品及服务的广告时展现出了开放的思维。他们需要摒弃自身的偏见和偏好,努力评估广告的质量,并更好地理解其制作背后的决策过程。

In class, students showcased their artistic expression sculptures, sharing both the inspirations behind their work and the challenges they encountered during the creative process. During their presentations, many students reflected on how they overcame obstacles, such as selecting suitable materials, translating their ideas into three-dimensional forms, and conveying their intended messages through sculpture.

在课堂展示环节中,学生们呈现了各自的艺术表达雕塑作品,阐述了创作灵感来源及艺术实践过程中面临的挑战。在陈述环节中,多数学生反思了如何克服创作障碍,包括材料选择、三维形态的构思转化以及雕塑作品的情感表达等问题。

Students presented their family projects through visual communication. Each student created an original artwork representing their family history and roots, drawing on a wide range of materials, media, and colours. This open-minded exploration of different techniques and perspectives encouraged both creativity and personal expression.

学生们通过视觉传达展示了他们的家庭项目。每位学生创作了一件原创艺术作品,以此呈现自己的家庭历史与根源,并运用多种材料、媒介和色彩。对不同技法和视角的这种开放式探索,激发了创造力与个人表达。

In an exploration of mixed-media art this week, students created works integrating paper weaving, image fusion, and cyanotype printing. They combined visual styles with manual techniques—weaving, layering, and experimenting with light-sensitive processes—thereby bridging traditional and contemporary art forms. This integration cultivated both innovative thinking and cross-media visual expression.

在本周综合媒介艺术的旅程中,学生们创作了融合纸编、图像融合与蓝晒技法的作品。他们将多样的视觉风格与手工技艺——编织、分层以及对光敏过程的实验——相结合,从而连通了传统与现代艺术的形式。这种融合培育了学生的创新思维与跨媒介视觉表达能力。

This week, students demonstrated open-mindedness by enthusiastically exploring the traditions of Chinese New Year through music. By engaging with the songs and spectacle of the Spring Festival Gala, they embraced unfamiliar cultural expressions with curiosity and respect, broadening their understanding of how music celebrates heritage and community worldwide.

本周,学生们热情探索了农历新年的音乐传统。通过接触春节联欢晚会的歌曲与艺术形式,他们以好奇和尊重的态度拥抱不同的文化表达,拓宽了对音乐如何在全球范围内传承文化与凝聚社区的理解。

This week, students are learning open-mindedness by embracing the creative possibilities of programming. They are showing openness by adapting to the new iMac environment, supporting each other as they follow the rules inside the research area,  navigate the different interface of the computer, and share their discoveries. It’s a foundational lesson in flexibility, showing them that a willingness to explore is the first step to true digital creation.

本周,学生们通过探索编程的创新可能性来培养开放的心态。他们展现出开放的态度,能够适应新的 iMac 环境,相互支持,在研究区域内遵循规则,熟悉电脑的不同界面,并分享自己的发现。这是一堂关于灵活性的基础课程,向他们展示了勇于探索是实现真正数字创作的第一步。

Ms. Carol: Grade 3 students immersed themselves in the world of classical poetry, appreciating how poets express admiration for nature. Through close reading and analysis of selected poems, students identified vivid imagery and emotional language used by poets to convey their awe of natural landscapes. This literary exploration not only deepened their understanding of poetic techniques but also fostered their own ability to observe and describe the beauty of the natural world with a more attentive and appreciative eye.


Ms. Nicky: In Grade 6's classical Chinese class on ‘Dai Song's Painting of Bulls’, students explored connections between art, science, and daily life while reflecting on the relationship between authority and true knowledge. They learned that Dai Song's error arose not from lack of skill, but from painting without real‑world observation. The cowherd’s correction, in turn, came not from arrogance but from attentive experience. This lesson embodies the essence of being open‑minded: the willingness to question accepted views and think flexibly in pursuit of understanding.


Ms. Carol: 三年级学生深入古典诗歌的世界,品味诗人笔下对大自然的赞美之情。通过对精选古诗的细读与赏析,同学们辨识出诗人描绘自然景象的生动意象与饱含情感的语言。这次文学探索不仅加深了他们对诗歌艺术的理解,也培养了他们以更专注、更欣赏的眼光观察和描绘自然之美的能力。


Ms. Nicky:在六年级的《书戴嵩画牛》文言文学习中,学生们跨越艺术、科学与生活经验的边界,深入探讨了“权威与真知”这一深刻命题。他们领悟到,戴嵩的笔误并非源于技艺不足,而是创作脱离了真实观察;牧童的指正也绝非轻狂,而是扎根于日常劳作的细致洞察。这一切,恰恰体现了“Open-Minded”的核心精神——敢于对既有观点提出疑问,始终保持着思考的弹性和向真知敞开的态度。

Students explored how book illustrations can enhance the meaning of a story’s words. Through observation, students were able to identify various artistic styles and learnt that illustrators express ideas visually and how different stories can be told through pictures. 

学生们探究了书籍插图如何能增强故事文字的内涵。通过观察,学生们能够辨别出各种不同的艺术风格,并了解到插画师是如何以视觉形式表达想法的,以及不同的故事是如何通过图片来讲述的。

Ms. Carol: Grade 1 students embraced open-mindedness as they reviewed all previously learned concepts in preparation for the final assessment. Students approached problems from multiple angles, welcomed different solving strategies from their peers, and flexibly applied various methods to arithmetic operations and word problems.


Ms. Leaf: Grade 6 broadened their perspectives as they explored geometric concepts such as circular rings, circles within squares, and squares within circles.

Ms. Leaf: 六年级圆环、方中圆与圆中方的几何知识,是培养开放思维的好素材。用“大圆减小圆”的转化思路解圆环面积,从方与圆的嵌套中找图形关联,都是跳出定式、多元思考的过程。        


Ms. Carol: 一年级学生在数学复习中展现了开放包容的学习态度。他们从多角度分析问题,乐于接纳同伴的不同解题策略,并能灵活运用多种方法处理计算与应用题。这种开放式的复习不仅巩固了数学知识,更培养了包容和适应性强的学习心态。

The PE curriculum centers on an "open mindset," guiding students to try new movements and embrace different styles in gymnastics and dance training. Through practice, students experience the diverse possibilities of physical expression and learn to adapt to challenges, appreciating the growth of others. This experience makes students more willing to step out of their comfort zones and face future sports and learning with a positive and accepting attitude.

体育课程以“开放的心态”为核心,引导学生尝试新的动作,并接纳体操和舞蹈训练中的不同风格。通过练习,学生体验到身体表达的多种可能性,学会适应挑战,并欣赏他人的进步。这种经历使学生更愿意走出舒适区,以积极包容的态度面对未来的运动和学习。

This week’s boarding activities were centred around the theme of open-minded thinking. Whether in the handicrafts session or the board games, each activity was designed around this theme. These programmes have not only enriched students’ extracurricular life but also helped cultivate flexible thinking, collaborative skills, and creative problem-solving abilities, bringing renewed energy to their daily learning and personal growth.

本周的住宿活动以“开放思维”为核心贯穿始终,无论是创意手工课还是多元桌面游戏,均以此为主线展开设计。这些活动不仅丰富了同学们的课余生活,更有助于培养灵活思考、团队协作与创造性解决问题的能力,为日常学习与成长注入了新的活力。
